60,000 liters per day Treatment Plant for removing Colour from Textile Dyeing Effluents with Continuously and Seasonally Varying Coloured Effluents

The compact treatment plant under construction during 1997

Client Suntex Processing Mills, Gummidipoondi, Chennai
Project To remove the colour from the dyeing effluents
Role Consultants for the following services

1. Characterization of the raw effluent
2. Evaluation of an existing proposal for a biological treatment system
3. Laboratory studies on biological system's efficiency
4. Review of existing practices for colour removal and their problems
5. Simulation of chemical precipitation techniques for colour removal
6. Evolving a fully physical-chemical system for adopting to downtimes
7. Detailed engineering of the proposed treatment plant for the field
8. Contruction supervision of the treatment plant and its piping / valves

Status

The assignment started in August 97 and was successfully completed in December 98. The plant is now in full treatment capacity. As this is not a biological process, the plant is simply shut down during times of no production of dyeing cloths. Moreover, the plant design permits batch operation to suit the highly varying effluent flowrates by operating it in the required number of batches accordingly.

Results Some of the key parameters of the raw effluent and the treated water quality obtained are as follows

Parameters Predominant Colours
Raw effluent Blue Red Brown Grey Green Yellow Mixed
Treated effluent nil nil nil nil nil nil nil

The plant has an unique monolithic construction and occupies a foot print of 3 meters X 3 meters only
