Desalting of perfumery effluent

500 Liters per day Treatment Plant
For Desalting by controlled Evaporation
In solar pans for Perfumery Chemicals Manufacture

Client Artemis Perfchem, Chennai
Project To desalt the sulphide laden wastewater resulting from the process
Role Consultants for the following services

1. Study of process stoichometry for mass balance
2. Establishing the probable wastewater composition
3. Arriving at evaporation data from meteorological data
4. Correcting evaporation rate for the organic content of the effulent
5. Review of lining techniques for the wastewater holding basin
6. Evolving the design criteria for solar deslating pans
7. Designing the foundation system permitting free drain of residues
8. Supervision of construction of the lining layer erection and its protection
9. Commissioning the system for zero effluent discharge
10. Participation in discussions with customers/consultants
Status The assignment started in July 97 and was successfully completed in March 98
Results

There is no groundwater pollution due to this salt laden wastewater with TDS in the ranges of 30000 to 90000 mg/l produced intermittently. Some of the key parameters of the raw effluent and the evaporated salt quality obtained are as follows:

Parameters Salt and Odour
Raw effluent TDS of effluent at about 85,000 mg/l and an intense odour
Desalted water Free of salt content and absence of ground water contamination

The solar evaporator has an unique seepage free design eminently suitable for local conditions.
