Zero Liquid Discharge Feasibility Report in Tannery CETPs for USTDA in Tamilnadu

The United States Trade and Development Agency invited global tenders for a feasibility study on zero liquid discharge from the 17 numbers of Tannery CETPs in Tamilnadu as a means of saving the river course aquifer which was getting polluted by the high salt contents of the effluents from these tanneries that was irreversibly increasing the salinity of these aquifers which in turn was the very basis of drinking water for over 30 habitations alongside the river course. CEC and M/S Camp Dresser & McKee (CDM) of USA tied up as a consortium and won this international tender. Photo at left above shows the barren effluent soaking riverbed. Photo at right is Mr. Abdul Rahman, General Manager, Vaniyambadi CETP, Er. Tarik Pekin of M/S CDM and Er. S. Saktheeswaran of M/S CEC.
