Membrane
based recovery and reuse of metals from plating shop at BHEL,

|
This membrane based technology eliminates the older practice
of sludge from Lime based treatment and instead segregates
the plating effluents into concentrated metal bath and water
which are reused in dyebath and topping up batteries respectively.
The key to the success is the Thin Film Irradiation Unit "TFIU"
incorporated ahead of membrane to ensure against organic fouling.
CEC identified the design, configuration and commissioning
of this zero liquid discharge system. The highlights are
- Commissioned in March 2000 at Rs 3.45 lakhs
- Capacity of the Unit: 500 liters per day
- Net savings for period 2000 - 2003 Rs. 19 lakhs by recovering
and recycling 4 lakh liters of permeate water and 895 Kg of
metal salt
