Chemical
free iron water treatment plant for textile industry at Oppanayaka,
Sri Lanka
|
The Oppanayaka Textile Factory of M/S Melbourne Textiles,
Colombo has a setting in the interiors of Sri Lanka and piped
water supply is not available. The water for the factory had
to be drawn from local groundwater which had iron content
and turning brown upon drawal and storage. Many firms have
given offers for a chemical based treatment plant employing
Lime, Alum, Polyelectrolyte, activated carbon filtration and
even ion exchange. M/S CEC designed and supervised this above
treatment plant which does not use any chemical and uses ordinary
charcoal and the Oxygen from atmosphere and locally available
sand media and it is functioning successfully from 2003 and
needs only a cleaning of the top 15 cm of sand media once
in a month. The otherwise pristine quality of the raw water
is thus preserved and the taste is maintained.
